Mother's Day Crossing
Watercolor on watercolor paper
Image: 20 x 28 inches
Several years ago, our family hiked to Falls Creek
Falls, in Washington, on Mother's Day. As we
approached a small creek that ran across the
trail, a small girl hesitated with a concerned look
on her face. Her mother waited on the other
side encouraging her to cross. It was steep on
both sides of the creek and although it was a safe
place to cross, I understood the young girl's
apprehension. Steve and I crossed and when
I turned around I saw John Michael bend
down and say to the girl, "Do you want a ride?"
She jumped on his back and immediately
smiled with relief. The relief turned to joy and
I caught the moment. It was the perfect Mother's
Day gift!
When it came time to paint this image, the scene
became a coastal setting, because it inspired me
more than the trail scene.

I love this painting and the story you've told with it. Great mood, action and design :)
